If you haven’t planned a vacation this year, where in the world would you like to go?
For some great ideas, head to the Spring Travel Show this weekend at the Kelowna International Airport (YLW).
This Saturday, Feb 27 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, come check out the displays and talk to people in the Okanagan’s travel industry about your vacation plans. Certainly, you could spend time surfing the internet and consult various travel blogs or review websites, or you can talk to real live people about popular vacation destination.
Various air carriers will be on hand along with travel agents who have personally been on many of the vacations they’ll be talking to you about. Representatives from hotels and various resorts can provide helpful tips and travel information.
This travel show is also open house for YLW as they unveil plans for 30 years down the road with its 2045 Master Plan. See first-hand the plans for future development, the impact to the environment and provide your feedback as YLW continues drafting the plan that will ensure the airport remains sustainable for the next 30 years.
Because traffic through the airport has literally doubled in the last decade, the original 2025 Master Plan had to be revised. The runways need to be lengthened, the terminal needs to be expanded and more gates added and a 2,400 vehicle parkade will be built. Road infrastructure is also necessary to keep traffic under control, meaning an overpass on Harvey/Highway 97 needs to be constructed.
It promises to be a fun way to spend four hours on a Saturday afternoon in February, plus you’ll want to buy a few raffles tickets for a the draw for some pretty nice prizes. Proceeds from the raffle will go to Metro Community, a downtown Kelowna street ministry.
Here is what KLW and travel show partners will be giving away:
- Two tickets to Dublin from Air Canada
- A flight for two people to your choice of Prince George, Smithers or perhaps Terrace, B.C. courtesy of Central Mountain Air
- A complete holiday package for two people to Victoria courtesy of Coastal airlines
- A $250 voucher for an Air Canada Vacation
Admission to the event is free and your parking will be validated inside the airport. Parking will be available in the long-term lot between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm on Feb 27.
