Where to Find Winter Activities in KelownaThere are plenty of things to do throughout the Kelowna area of British Columbia. From skiing to dogsledding, you can find plenty of winter activities to enjoy. Here's a look at some of the top choices for your winter fun.

Cross-Country Skiing

The champagne powder found throughout the area is famous and great for cross-country skiing. There are plenty of groomed trails throughout Kelowna providing skiing fun for all skill levels. Whether you want to enjoy skate skiing, Nordic Skiing or track skiing, you can find it here.

The Big White Ski Resort is one of the top spots for cross-country skiing in the area. It's the second-largest ski resort in all of British Columbia and allows for all kinds of fun. With 16 lifts and 118 trails, there's plenty of skiing fun for all to enjoy.

Snowboarding and Downhill Skiing

If you prefer to go downhill instead of cross-country, you can enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding throughout the Kelowna area. The Big White Terrain found at the ski resort is excellent for all kinds of downhill fun. There are 118 marked downhill trails you can enjoy, and the resort won the Ski Canada Magazine awards for the Best Powder, Best Glades Skiing, Best Family Skiing and the Best Adaptive Ski Club in Canada.

Snowmobiling

Another fun activity you can enjoy during the winter in Kelowna is snowmobiling. Not only can you enjoy snowmobiling at the Big White Ski Resort, but if you stop by the visitor's centre, they provide more information on where you can go for great snowmobiling in Kelowna.

Ice Skating

Skaters have every opportunity to show off their skills, with free public skating available every day at Stuart Park's outdoor arena between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Check the schedule for routine ice maintenance, scheduled several times daily. Two popular indoor ice arenas are available for public skating when they're not being used for hockey or competition. Memorial Arena, built in 1945, is located in downtown Kelowna, next to Okanagan lake, while the centrally-located multi-sport Capital News Centre has two NHL-size ice surfaces and a seasonal leisure skating surface.

Sledding

At least three great locations exist for sledding enthusiasts in Kelowna: Ballou Park, at 391 Moubray Rd, is a neighbourhood recreational area that retains its natural topography for winter sledding, while another city facility, Belgo Park at 895 Belgo Rd, is a favourite for outdoor sledding and other winter activities. Both are open to the public 24 hours a day. In addition, Jack Robertson Memorial Park at 1655 Willow Crescent has some great sledding hills during the winter. This park closes at 11 p.m.

Many other winter activities are offered, including snowshoeing, tubing, and more. When the winter arrives, those in Kelowna still have plenty of fun to enjoy with all these great winter activities.
