Help Flip the Switch: Light Up Kelowna Saturday

Kick off your holiday shopping and join the fun this Saturday in Kelowna’s city centre.

Start the festive season off at the 27th annual Downtown Kelowna Light Up from 10:00 am to sundown at 5:30 pm.   It’s an all-day holiday spectacular of free activities, food and a visit from Santa.  Remember, the city has arranged free Saturday parking from December 5 to 31 in parking lots and parkades owned by the City of Kelowna.

Here’s a rundown on what’s happening by location: 

Stuart Park


  • Ice skating all day, weather permitting.  Bring your own skates.
  • Organized outdoor family park’n’play activities including a bouncy castle from noon to 5:30 pm, weather permitting.  Mascots will be roaming the park with live entertainment on the hour every hour.
  • Popcorn and hot chocolate will be available by donation.
  • At 5:00 pm, watch Santa light the 20-foot Christmas tree. 

Waterfront Park

  • Santa Shuffle and Elf Walk charity 5km, 1km and fun run for the Kelowna Salvation Army. It gets underway at 9:45 am at Rhapsody Plaza.  Preregistration required online. 

Kelowna Art Gallery (1314 Water Street)

  • Make a Starlight Lantern out of paper to light up the dark winter sky. Activity takes place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and costs $5 a person. 

Rotary Centre for the Arts (421 Cawston Avenue)


  • Join the Rotary elves for some good old fashioned holiday crafting from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Bring your camera for a “Frozen” photo opp with the Snow Queen & Snow Princess coming to Kelowna all the way from “Arendelle” from noon to 3:00 pm.  Plus, cuddly, furry friends from the Wentworth Petting Zoo will be available for the kids.
  • The Musical Instrument Zoo will be tuning up from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm in the dance studio.  It will be a rare opportunity to try a new instrument on for size. 


Okanagan Regional Library (1380 Ellis Street)

  • Bring the little ones for Holiday Storytime beginning at 11:00 am.  Free event. 

Laurel Packinghouse & BC Orchard Industry Museum (1304 Ellis Street)


  • Bring your camera for free photos with Santa starting at 11:00 am. He’ll have to leave at 4 o’clock to get ready to light the big Christmas tree at 5:00 pm at Stuart Park.
  • Trixie the Clown & Mr. Brown Knows invite you to sing-a-long with them from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Sprinkle some holiday cheer on some festive goodies with free cookie decorating from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Enjoy apple cider and more merriment in the museum.  Donations welcome.
  • The BC Wine Museum will offer complimentary tasting, including traditional mulled wine for the adults. 


Towne Centre Mall (545 Bernard Avenue)


  • More free activities downtown with face painting, balloon animals and twisting and free hot chocolate from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • Enjoy live piano in the mall from noon to 2:00 pm. 


Tree Beer Institute (1346 Water Street)

  • Present your copy of the Light Up Kelowna schedule for a complimentary 5-ounce beer to taste.  Available from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.
