Boasting a population nearing 28,000, the Rutland community was once a separate municipality until it was absorbed by the City of Kelowna in 1973. It is located east of Highway 97 between Old Vernon Road to the north and Mission Creek/Black Mountain to the south. It’s intersected by Highway 33. The area was named for John Rutland, an Australian farmer who introduced irrigation into the area more than century ago. This character neighbourhood is known for its vibrant community spirit, thriving business market and bright future, as the city’s revitalization plans take shape. Rutland residents are the salt of the earth and pride of community is everywhere.
The district is divided into North Rutland and South Rutland. The housing market is great for buyers as average listing prices are on the affordable side. The University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus is just five minutes to the north of Rutland off Highway 97.
